Roger Charles Lawson began his grand adventure on May 31, 1945, born to Cecil and Agnes Lawson in Ypsilanti, Michigan. After graduating from Willow Run High School he married his sweetheart, Cecelia Hollifield. Their son Ken was born in 1965 in Ypsilanti. Although their marriage ended they were lifelong friends. Roger headed for California not long after hearing Jimi Hendrix play his guitar. He had fond memories of his time in Oregon in the 70’s and Florida in the 80’s. In 1993 he drove the truck for a woman and her two daughters relocating to Grand Junction from Ann Arbor. They never looked back, and he and Vinje were married on June 1, 1996. Roger loved his stepdaughters wholeheartedly and was thrilled when his son moved to Colorado as well. He worked as a carpenter for over 30 years. In retirement he worked for Mail Managers and truly enjoyed seeing the folks on his route. Exploring the canyons and cliffs by jeep or on foot was a favorite pastime. He always wanted to follow the creek and climb the hill to see the splendor of the earth. He was warm and funny, ever so handy, and welcoming to all. Roger loved and he was loved. On January 5, 2021 our Jolly Roger set sail on his next great adventure, surrounded by his wife and children, leaving many to miss him greatly. His memory will be a blessing to his wife Vinje, son Ken Abbott, stepdaughters Anja and Hilary Goerke, grandsons Sterling Bright and Jace Abbott, granddaughters Brittany, Cecelia, and Taylor, nephews Greg and Chris Lawson, several in-laws, and many friends, some of whom have known him since grade school. When we can gather safely we will have a big party to celebrate the life of a very good man.
