Kirk Raymond Pittman, 82, of Hobbs, NM passed away Nov. 12, 2020 in
Tucson, AZ. He was born May 10, 1938 in South Bay, Washington to the late
Fred & Ruby Pittman. He was second to oldest of six children, Nancy, Vonda,
Linda, Fred, and Duane. He was baptized in The General Assembly and Church
of the Firstborn. He married Phyllis Means on August 31, 1968 in Hobart, OK.
While going to high school Kirk worked at a filling station in Olympia,
WA. He graduated high school in 1957 from North Thurston High. While in high
school he enjoyed playing basketball and participating in FFA. When it came
time for him to get his first car, he talked to the neighbor and made a deal. He
traded a large pile of manure for a 1939 Plymouth. This was the start of his
deep love for cars and racing. By the time Shelly and Ronnie were pre-teen, he
had taught them to street race. He had a lifetime collection of well over 60
vehicles. He retired from Mesa County, CO as a zoning administrator in the
90’s. While in his 60’s & 70’s he delivered high end vehicles in Palm Springs, CA.
He moved to Tucson, AZ in 2013 and then decided to move to Hobbs, NM in
2016 to move closer to his grandchildren. He enjoyed visiting brethren and
eating at their table where he always had “his own chair”. When his birthday
and Christmas came around, he was so excited to rip apart the presents and
see what was inside. In his last few years, he enjoyed telling stories of early life,
genealogy, or vehicles.
