Celestino “Bill” Vallez, 92, a lifelong resident of Fruita, passed away peacefully the evening of
December 26, 2020 at his home surrounded by family. He was born on April 27, 1928 in Fruita, CO,
the son of Onofre and Phyllis Vallez. After retiring from School District 51, he continued to stay busy
by working part-time and spending time with his family. He was a long time foster grandparent and a
member of the Fruita Assembly of God church. Bill's favorite past times included: watching pro
wrestling on tv, gathering toys and items for his loved ones, having family and friends stop in for a visit
and riding around town in his golf cart. He especially enjoyed playing cards almost every evening with
his daughter Shirley.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife Maxine, son, Fredrick Vallez, son, Garry Vallez; his parents,
eight siblings, a daughter-in-law, a grandson and great grandson.
Survivors include his three sons, Herman Mascarenas of Riverton, UT., Leonard Vallez and Steve
Vallez of Fruita. Two daughters, Shirley Gardea (Jesse) of Fruita, Madelene Pacheco (Louis) of Rock
Springs, WY.; two sisters, Dee Payne and Betty Avery of Salinas, CA.; twelve grandchildren, twenty
great-grandchildren, thirteen great-great grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 4th at Elmwood Cemetery in Fruita
and a celebration of life gathering will be hosted for family and friends at a later date.
