Susann “Su” Winey Dodge

Su Dodge, 83, went home to be with the Lord on August 29, 2019, at HopeWest, Hospice Care Center in Grand Junction, Colorado, of complication from lung disease.

Born on April 27, 1936, in Denver, CO., to Mathias “Matt” Roth and Natalie Lapham Roth, Su was the sixth of seven siblings. Su attended grade school, 1st to 8th grade, at Wagner School, a one room school house, in Broomfield, CO. Her family had a Dairy Farm in Broomfield, CO. Then in 1949, her family moved to Garfield, CO., on Monarch Pass, where the family operated and owned Rangeview Café and Garage. Su attended and graduated in 1954, from Salida High School. She met and married Harold Winey, who lived at Sargents, CO., and worked for the Colorado State Highway Dept. After their wedding they moved to Dillon, Co., later moved to Climax, CO., Woody Creek, CO., and Hotchkiss CO. Su and Harold had one son, Matt Clark and one daughter, Merri Kris. Su was blessed with 8 Grand Children, Chris, Jamie, Michelle, Samantha, Jarrett, Stefan, Marcus, and Katrina. Su also is blessed with 23 Great Grand Children and 1 Great Great Granddaughter.

One of Su’s favorite jobs was working for Colorado University of Atmospheric Science, where she would have to snowshoe or ride a snowmobile to read the snow board, measuring the snow, while she lived at Climax. CO. As they were testing on seeding clouds to make snow. During the summer Su also read the Rain Gauges. Su loved working at the lunch room at Hotchkiss, and driving the School Bus. Later Su and Harold owned and operated Winey Texaco and Garage, with Matt Clark, Terri, and Merri Kris Winey.  Su was very talented as she was an excellent mechanic. Su also was an EMT, while in Hotchkiss.

Su’s husband, Harold Winey, lost his fight with cancer in 1984. Su continued to own and operate Winey’s Texaco.  In the early 1980’s, Su met Ed Dodge. Su and Ed Dodge were married in 1988. Su and Ed raised Registered White Face Herefords on their ranch, in Hotchkiss. After they sold the ranch in 1999, they moved to Olathe, CO. Ed Dodge lost his fight with cancer in 2007.  Su Dodge resided in Olathe until her death.

Su Dodge had a big heart, and was known for her quick wit, sense of humor, her loving and caring ways, she was a wonderful lady always willing to help anyone in whatever way they needed. And as her last way to help, Su Dodge donated her body to Science Care.

Su Dodge is survived by her Son, Matt Clark (Terri) Winey, Daughter, Merri Kris Winey, and Grandchildren, Chris (Traci) Winey, plus two children, Jamie Winey, plus 3 children, Michelle, (Sean) Winey, plus one child, Samantha (Terry) Anderson, plus 2 children, Jarrett (Jennifer) Clowers, plus 3 children Stefan (Kayla) Ridgeway, plus 4 children, Marcus (Sarah) Ridgeway, plus 8 children, Katrina (Mike) Ridgeway. And Su’s Sister, Judy (Bill) Sunderlin, Su’s Nephews and Nieces; Chuck (Linda) Roth, Natalie (David) Britton, Matt (Bev) Roth, Gary (Joanne) Roth, Greg (Sharon) Roth, John Roth, Kaylyn Roth, Karen (Dan) Myers, Kenneth Roth, Jossiebell Roth, Kathryn Roth. Plus 10 Great Nephew and Nieces. And her Pretty Kitty –“Fluffer”.  Also Su Dodge’s friends, Jack Davis and Damian Rea, who checked on her daily. And also the family of Su Dodge wants to say Thank you to Dr. Sara Knutson, who gave Su such great loving care, what an angel you are, Dr. Sara.

 

 

 Su was preceded in death by  her husbands, Harold Winey, Ed Dodge, her sister Edythe Natalie(Betty), her Brothers and Sister in laws , Chuck (Donna)Roth, Matt, (Marilyn) Roth, Rollie (Ella) Roth, and  John(Jack) Roth. And also by her Beautiful White Kitty-“One Eye”-“Poof”.  

Su Dodge’s family has requested no flowers, but memorial contributions can be made in Su Dodge’s name to HopeWest, P. O, Box 24, Delta, CO 81416, or HopeWest Hospice, 3090-B N. 12th Street, Grand Junction, CO 81506.  Celebration of Life will be held on October 5, 2019 at 1 PM, at Olathe Firemans Hall, 512 Horton Avenue, Olathe CO.
