Lorna Jeanne Davis/Aunt Nornie (95) of Grand Junction, Colorado ( formerly of Durango, Colorado ) passed away peacefully on December 16, 2019.  Lorna was born August 3rd, 1924 in Achilles, Kansas to Cecil and Gladys Hurst.  In 1928, the family moved to Western Colorado ( Dove Creek Area).    After 3 moves, they ended up in Durango where Lorna graduated from DHS in 1941.   She began working as a bookkeeper at Jackson Hardware/French Hardware.  She married Francis Irl Davis in 1943 and after 2 ½  years at Hill Air Force Base in Utah, they returned to Durango where she went back to work at the hardware store and became involved in all aspects of the store operation.  In 1971, she and Uncle Fran purchased a hardware store in Grand Junction to which they added a gift shop and postal sub station.   Uncle Fran passed away suddenly on February 11, 1977.  A year and half later, Lorna sold the store and became an insurance agent with Mutual of Omaha.  She was with them for 30+ years.  Her dedication and hard work was greatly appreciated by her clients.  Her long membership in the Western Slope Non smoking Singles afforded her the opportunity  to travel the world.  She was also active for many years (65) in the Colorado Epsilon Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi and was a member of several square dancing clubs , Levis and Lace and Happy Feet.  Aunt Nornie was one of a kind and will be greatly missed.   Lorna was predeceased by her parents, Cecil and Gladys Hurst, her husband Francis, her brother C.R. (Bob) Hurst and her sister Jarroldine Mair and her sister in law Marg Davis, originally of Aztec, New Mexico.  She is survived by  23 nieces and nephews, numerous great nieces and nephews and many friends.  Thank you to her niece, Gladys McKinnis of Clifton, for her constant and caring concern for Aunt Nornie over the years and decades.   I also want to thank Richard Weidman for all the work he did for Lorna for many years keeping her affairs well and good.   We also want to thank the staff at La Villa Grande Care Center for taking good care of Aunt Nornie.  A memorial service will be held on Wednesday,  January 15, 2020 at 2pm at the Crossroads United Methodist Church, 599 30 Road.  Refreshments to follow the service.   Thank you to  Pastor Griggs and the Crossroads  United Methodist Church.  Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be at Crestview Memorial Gardens (Florida Mesa/Durango ) in the Spring.   Memorials may be made to Crossroads Church.
