Lawrence (Larry) Anthony DeCamp, 90, of Fruita passed away November 11, 2019 at Larchwood Inn in Grand Junction.
He was born in Collbran, Colorado on April 11, 1929 to Alfred and Alice DeCamp.
Larry graduated from Grand Junction High May 27, 1947. He attended Mesa Junior College where he played baseball. By his own testimony he played several different positions, pitching occasionally. Baseball was his favorite sport. In later years he and Anna faithfully attended the yearly JUCO baseball tournament held in Grand Junction. Purple (Colorado Rockies) was his favorite color. If there was a Rockies game, he was watching it.
Larry married Ruth Zopfi in 1951. They had four children, Bob (Lynn), Sandy (John), Richard, and Debbie (Monty) and 6 grand-children, 1 great grandchild, and one great-great grandchild.
Larry worked as a chemical engineer in the oil industry, working at the Gilsonite refinery near Fruita for many years.
In 1986 Larry married Anna Bender. Larry’s family expanded to include: Carla (Wayne), Sandie (Dick), and Terri (David), six grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. Larry was loved and appreciated as a quiet, unassuming, supportive husband, father, and grandfather. They were married nearly 33 years until Anna’s death on June 10, 2019.
Larry was an expert gardener, sharing his many vegetables with family and friends.
Larry’s and Anna’s lives were centered around their relationship with God. Every morning they could be seen by neighbors having their devotions in front of the kitchen window. Larry served for years as a deacon, church treasurer, and Awana leader. They are now together with the Lord they love and many family and friends who have gone before them.
Larry’s memorial service will be held at Fruita Faith Baptist Church on November 20th at 2 PM followed by internment at Elmwood Cemetery, Fruita.
