With immense gratitude for the life he shared with us, we announce the passing of our beloved uncle, cousin, and friend, Jerald Conor Halpin, known by those closest to him as Jerry, on August 8, 2018.
Jerry is survived by his longterm special friend, Connie Estridge, nephew Sean Halpin, cousins Roger Milroy and Calvin Boyle, a multitude of other cousins, and many close friends.
Born March 27, 1952, the son of Thomas and Irene Halpin, Jerry was born in Jamaica, Queens, N.Y.City where he lived with his parents and his older brother, Bruce. Jerry attended Sayville High School. Later he worked as a CATV construction lineman for various contractors on the E. Coast and eventually in Phoenix, where his parents moved. Jerry earned his bachelors and masters at ASU.
Jerry was well loved by faculty, staff, and students of Grand Junction High School where he taught language arts. Jerry loved music, was an accomplished pianist and keyboarder, and was a member of several bands.
Jerry enjoyed surf boarding, snow boarding, skiing, kayaking, running, and hiking. He loved animals, especially cats, nature and being a part of it. Jerry enjoyed running, especially along the River Front Trail at Connected Lakes. With an active mind, Jerry remained an avid reader. Jerry was a well known member of Mesa Fitness where he worked out daily. He was also a member of a close knit group of friends who spends occasional evenings together at the Rockslide.
Jerry had the special capacity to give of himself to others. Jerry was always seeking ways to make a difference and very recently was heard to say, "I just want to do something meaningful." His many acts of true friendship and genuine kindness along with his generous heart will not be forgotten.
Safe journeys, Jerry. We will keep you close in our hearts and always celebrate the joy of having you in our lives.
